A Month of Gratitude and Community

November has been a special month filled with family, gratitude, and community across our schools. Earlier this month, students honored local veterans through meaningful Veterans Day programs and events throughout the district. Our schools also welcomed families and loved ones to share a delicious Thanksgiving meal prepared and served by our outstanding Child Nutrition Program staff. We are grateful for the many parents and community members who volunteered and helped make these events such a success.

Board of Education Update

The Vestavia Hills Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on November 17, 2025. The meeting began with recognition of the Vestavia Hills Boys Cross Country Team for winning their state championship.

The Board approved an addendum to the school system’s agreement with Schneider Electric to include energy management, HVAC, and roofing upgrades at Vestavia Hills Elementary West. This project is part of a multi-year initiative to modernize mechanical and energy systems across all schools. The upgrades will be funded through state legislative supplemental appropriations.

Along with regular financial updates, consent items, and monthly personnel actions, the Board appointed former Board of Education president Jaclyn Hudson to serve as the school system’s representative on the City of Vestavia Hills Annexation Committee. The full November 17 meeting may be viewed on our YouTube channel.

Message from the Superintendent

As we move into the Thanksgiving season, we all know that the holidays can be overwhelming at times; filled with busyness, stress, and a wide range of emotions. They can also be a meaningful reminder for us to pause and reflect on the many blessings we enjoy as a community.

One of the greatest blessings in Vestavia Hills City Schools is the partnership we share with you, our families. Your support, your encouragement, and your willingness to walk alongside us create a beautiful tapestry that is The Vestavia Way. This year, I have seen countless examples of how you care for and invest in your children: celebrating their successes, helping them persevere through challenges, and cheering them on in everything from the classroom to the ball field to the stage.

Each family in our system brings its own strengths, values, and spirit to our mission. You give, you serve, and you support your children and our teachers and staff simply because that is who you are. The fruits of that partnership are evident every day.

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of attending several Veterans Day programs in our schools. The sincerity with which our students expressed gratitude to our veterans was powerful. Their love for country and respect for those who served are clear reflections of the values you instill at home and that we build upon at school.

For these and so many other reasons, I am grateful for you. I wish each of you and your family a restful and blessed Thanksgiving!

Todd Freeman, Ed.D.
